It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our long-standing chair and director, Peter Renshaw.
Peter ended his formal career as Chief Executive of Connexions and Managing Director of Somerset Careers, and his enthusiasm for helping youth was sustained with involvement in Prospect Services, National Careers Service and Work Programme in the South West.
His work with young people continued with ambassador roles with the Duke of Edinburgh Award and The Chaffinch Trust, encouraging co-operation among charities in support of disadvantaged youth. This enthusiasm was evident during his time with Valencia Communities Fund.
Peter joined Viridor Credits, now Valencia Communities Fund, in 2008 and adopted the mantle of Chair in 2014, overseeing much change while maintaining the high standards of funding the best projects with excellent service to our applicants. Peter was such a long-serving supporter of the Landfill Communities Fund and many community, heritage and biodiversity projects benefitted as a result.
Among Peter's favourite projects was the Great Crane Project, which ran for four years between 2011 and 2015 and resulted in the successful reintroduction of the Eurasian crane to the Somerset levels and beyond.
He will be sorely missed by his fellow directors and staff.
