Beccles Lido was a busy and much-loved facility before it was shut in 2008 due to poor repair, soaring heating costs and a dwindling number of users.
Lamenting the loss of this pool, a group of local residents formed Beccles Lido Limited; a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the refurbishment, re-opening and running of this former community hub.
The group were determined that the pool should utilise state-of-the-art technology to provide green sources of heating and conserve water. BLL, with the help of SET and Valencia Communities Fund, raised £300,000 to restore the pool to it's former glory and beyond. Now, more people than ever use the facility.
In recognition of the achievements of the group and the community in general, their efforts were rewarded with the presentation of the Prime Minister's Big Society Award in November 2011.
