The residents of North Wootton have good reason to enjoy the sanctuary of their community garden, after a long battle saved it from development.
The former allotments, previously rented by the residents of the street, were earmarked for development before the intervention of a proactive group of indiviuals of Pilton Road, who would not allow a council error to allow them to lose their precious green space.
Duly saved in 2009, the residents won an award from the HLF to transform the allotments into a community garden and vegetable patch for the residents of North Wootton.
An application to Valencia Communities Fund in 2012 saw the construction of access paths throughout the garden, and further improvements include a self-regulating greenhouse, complete with automatic watering and ventilation, a proposed woodland area and a nature strip that has become a haven for slow worms
