A former byre, mortuary and chapel in the village of Newbold was reborn as a village hall in 1987 thanks to the efforts of Chesterfield Civic Society.
The 13th Century building came with the usual problems associated with problems of a certain age, as well as suffering from anti-social behaviour and theft.
The efforts of the Trustees of the old chapel had seen the fabric of the building secured, and an application to Valencia Communities Fund enabled the Trust to install security measures to help protect the building and the grounds in sits in.
The ancient Eyre Chapel is now looking to the future, with improvements to access recently completed and further plans to conserve other historical features of the chapel whilst providing a quality community space.
