Highfield Park, Chesterfield

Highfield Park is a large open community park with lots of sports pitches, a small MUGA, basketball ball enclosure and fine views to the north. Within the park, the play area was a large, uninspiring area of mostly bare tarmac with some sad pieces of ageing equipment well over 25-years old and in dire need of refurbishment

The council, working with local children, their parents and carers developed proposals for a new play space. Play equipment companies provided solutions based on initial ideas from the local community which were then put to a public vote.

The council approached Valencia Communities Fund for funding towards this project and they were awarded £39,750.

The new equipment provides for a wide range of play experiences; rocking, rotating, swinging, climbing, social play and ground graphics to name but a few. The new play space is proving extremely popular with visitors to the park.
