Situated in a busy recreation area next to the village hall, the former wooden playground was condemned by RoSPA mid-pandemic and cordoned off. This did not stop local families breaking through the cordon and using the condemned equipment, prompting the parish council to remove the old equipment. However, the council as sensitive to the needs of young families and consulted with the village as to the requirements for a new play park and wider recreation area.
The total cost of the new playground was in the region of £120,000 and Valencia Communities Fund awarded £48,702 towards the project. The funding was enough for the first two phases of the plan and there will be further phases to enhance both the playground and the playing field as a whole. This has been a remarkable transformation from grassy scrub to fantastic play area.
