St. Mary's House, Bramber

In the small town of Bramber, there is a rare and beautiful house whose pleasant gardens and quaint exterior belies its chequered history.

From Templar chapter house to Monastic inn, from Royal bolt hole (allegedly!) to soldiers' lodgings, St. Mary's House has seen many changes in use and fortune throughout its 900 year life. Now a private home that is open to the public, St. Mary's has seen several decades of restoration work transform a derelict, decaying ruin into a nationally-important treasure.
